Metal recycling program
Whip Salon is proud to announce that as of 3/28/2022 all locations are now “Local Green Salons.” Effective immediately we're locally recycling all aluminum materials used in color services across our 4 Fairfield County locations and 1 Hilton Head Island location using the Local Green Salon service. The benefits include:
Keeping thousands of pounds of waste out of landfill every year
Saving energy (recycling aluminum saves 90-95% of the energy needed to make it from ore)
Reducing color waste (using new tools & techniques for removing every gram of color from the tubes)
Salon metal waste is tricky - it's usually contaminated with hair color so most recycling companies won't take it. There is a well-known program called Green Circle Salons which allows salons to recycle their metal but it requires mailing all the waste to their HQ in Canada! That didn't seem very green to us, and we were determined to find a local solution.
Local Green Salon has found great local partners in Danbury, CT and Bluffton, SC who have agreed to accept aluminum salon waste. LGS also developed techniques to minimize contamination of the metal waste, trained our staff on new procedures for collecting the materials, and hired local drivers to periodically consolidate and transport the waste to the recycling facilities. LGS launched with Whip Salon as their pilot customer in March 2022. So far the program has been running great and LGS is now opening up the service to other salons in the Danbury CT and Bluffton SC areas.
Please note that in order to help defray the costs of operating the Local Green Salon program you will see a small $1.50 "eco fee" added to color service tickets starting on 3/28/22. This fee only applies to color appointments that generate metal waste.
